Our jolly old elf is wearing his work hat in November as he hustles around the workshop getting ready for December. It is easy to see from his soiled beard and hatband that he's working hard these days :-)
Santa is my interpretation of an original pattern from Chestnut Junction. He is created from painted, sanded, and aged muslin, with a needle sculpted nose and button eyes. His hatband and beard are pieced from aged & grubbied cotton quilt batting. He measures 11 inches tall, has a hanging loop of twine on the back and is signed & dated.

Reindeer Feed & Santa's Door Key
My precious little granddaughters have a wonderful & fun Christmas Eve tradition that I'm sharing with you this year. After a light early dinner and their baths, they join mommy in the kitchen to help bake Santa's Favorite Quick Cookies (see recipe in the Humble Confections Cook-e-Book). When the cookies are ready for the oven, they make up a batch of Reindeer Feed for Rudolph. Reindeer Feed is a magical concoction made of oats & glitter & sparkly, magically stuff that Rudolph can see when he's guiding Santa's sleigh so he will know where to land to bring the toys. Once the feed is ready, Mommy puts the cookies in the oven and they grab their jackets, the feed, and their Magic Santa Key that has been hanging as an ornament on the Christmas tree, and head for the front porch where they hang the key on the front door knob & sprinkle the feed on the stoop. Since they don't have a chimney in their home, Santa uses his magic to make any key fit the front door so he can get in & bring their toys while Rudolph is eating his sparkly feed. When that is done, they scurry back inside to get the cookies out of the oven & put them under the tree with a thank-you note to Santa before rushing off to bed before he arrives.
My little Christmas Eve Magic Kit contains a small rusty key with a small fabric hang tag embellished with Santa's name embroidered on it, and a small stained muslin bag stamped "Reindeer Feed" and filled with oats & sparkles.

Holiday Banners
Peace, Hope, & Joy
Any of these small pennant banners would be so cute hung on a mantle or a cupboard door for the holidays. Each pennant is hand appliqued using letters cut from various holiday fabrics onto a base of stained & aged muslin and strung on aged twine. A small strip of homespun in holiday colors is knotted between each letter. All edges are left to fray to add to the primitive charm.
Each flag is approximately 5 inches long, and the cording lengths are: JOY-28 inches, HOPE-38 inches, PEACE-46 inches.
