Y'all want to rust your own tin jingle bells?! Here are two different recipes to try:
Recipe #1:
Mix
1/2 Cup White Vinegar
1/2 Cup Bleach
First and most importantly make sure ya do this in a well ventilated area, the outdoors is best. It gives off toxic fumes so be careful!
Let bells soak for about 20 minutes in the mixture. The rustin' will not happen until after they are removed from the mixture so remove them and let them air dry. I prefer spread them out on a plastic plate. Don't make the mistake of placin' them to dry on tin foil, I learned that one the hard way!
If they don't appear rusty enough to your likin', spritz them again with the solution in a spray bottle and let them air dry.
Recipe #2:
Mix
2 Cups of Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 Cup White Vinegar
2 Tbsp. Salt
I let the bells soak overnight. Again, the rustin' will not happen until after they are removed from the mixture so remove them and let them air dry. If they don't appear rusty enough to your likin', spritz them again with the solution in a spray bottle and let them air dry.
Out of the two recipes, I prefer the first. The bells have a more authentic rusty look to them.
Please note... Ya can't rust stainless steel or aluminum and ALWAYS remember to wear gloves.
Have fun and jingle all the way.... :> )
