This month The Humble Arts would like to salute our resident Americana lover. Karin Pender, aka Peanut, is a perfect blend of primitive, Americana, whimsy, and just plain old fun to hang out with. Her online business has grown into a very well known and successful venture known as Countryfolk Keepsakes.

In picking her brain a bit, we discovered that her favorite past time is driving old back country roads, enjoying the beautiful rural countryside. She's fascinated with old barns, their history and the forgotten stories that dwell within them. She has a passion for nature and it's beauty. Karin values God, family and country foremost. Also, being an old soul, she loves old worn, scratched and rusty stuff. Nothing frou-frou for this All American Country gal!

It's no surprise that when asked what her dream vacation would be she replied: "Dream vacation? Hmmm... I won't fly, so I would love to go across the good ol' U.S. of A. in an RV. Definite stops would be the Giant Redwoods, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park and The Grand Canyon. I would also swing by Eldon, Iowa and have our pic taken in front of the American Gothic house with pitchfork in hand. Oh and I would have to head south and hit the World's Longest Yard Sale on Highway 127. Heck, I can't pass up a bargain, even on my dream vacation."

The Penders are avid Americana folk art lovers, creating and collecting their passion.

Her favorite food is old fashioned haddock fishfry and she has a weakness for Tea Time Tassies. She says "I can't control myself when I see a plate of them. It's quite embarrassin' " Within our group, she is active in sharing her favorite recipes. Check out her favorite on our new recipe page.
